Since 1990, soil science department has been occupying three-floor building (1750m2). It is used for teaching and learning activity comprising (a) laboratories: soil chemistry, soil physics, Pedology and information system of field resource management (525m2) (b) classrooms: large classroom with capacity for 70-80 students (110m2) and small classroom with capacity for 40-50 students (70m2) (c) conference room (40m2) (d) book collection room (60m2). Other part of the building is used for administration. It comprises (a) staff room for 22 people (200m2) (b) head and secretary of department room (35m2) (c) administration coordinator (25m2), and HMIT (35m2). Other facilities includes dry and storage room of soil sample (36m2), greenhouse (30m2) and public service and lobby (100m2).



Soil science department has some laboratories to support teaching and learning. They are soil chemistry, soil physics, Pedology, remote-sensingand mapping, soil biology, isotope radio, information system of geography and environmental quality.




The classrooms are used for both soil science students and other department students. But, high intensity of other unscheduled academic (such as seminar and etc.) can increase the use of classroom reaching 40 hours a week. The quality and quantity of learning facilities are overhead projector, wifi, video & TV, sound-systems, computer and visual aid.


Internet and Reading Room

Internet and reading room are in the second floor of the building. Academic civitas of soil science can access internet by using computers connected with internet. The computers can be used free of charge Besides, the building also provides books especially about soil science and other related soil science references.



Data and Information

Information system is really crucial to support teaching and learning process in soil science department. In 2006, soil science department built information system funded by PHK-A2. In Soil Science department, the information system used depends on the flow of information comprising all element of department and outside department. 

Soil science department adopts information technology run by University. It is used for academic service and information system to candidates, students, alumni, staff-to-public. The university supports it by giving interconnected network between soil science department and UPPTI University of Brawijaya. Academic information system (SIAKAD) and information system are used to get references through internetwork among libraries inside and outside university of brawijaya. This network works well so far. Soil science department provides LED, announcement board, website and twitter to inform and communicate among academic civitas of soil science department.
